| | June 2010 Dear Friend, It was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us… Charles Dickens
Or so it seemed during the recently concluded 2010 Connecticut legislative session. The short, three-month session and belt-tightening budget produced rigorous debate and wild swings in the fate of important bills. However, we are pleased to report that we helped push several important bills to passage: Environmental reform bill to streamline state permit process for projects that produce jobs or provide other economic benefits Farms, Food, Jobs bill to support local farm jobs by providing better access to milk marketing funds and support for local farmer markets Chemical Innovations Institute bill to promote safer alternatives to toxic chemicals and access to international markets for Connecticut-manufactured products. Bonding bill to clean up pollution in the Sound and generate nearly 3000 jobs in construction, engineering, and facility management Child safety bill to prohibit the sale of children’s jewelry that contains cadmium. Equally important, we helped defeat bills that would have reduced environmental protections and even one bill to eliminate the DEP. We were unable to stop the raiding of dedicated clean energy and open space funds, increasing of fees for parks, and leaving river corridors unprotected, so much work remains undone.
Please donate today so we can publish our Environmental Scorecard that tracks legislators’ voting records and can launch our bi-partisan candidate endorsement work. These efforts are critical during this election year when voters need accurate, unbiased information to choose the right candidates. We guarantee the public value of your support for CTLCV will match the generosity of your donation. Sincerely,
