The 2019 legislative session resulted in major commitments to clean energy, reduction in plastic pollution, investment in electric vehicles, and conservation of our natural resources via the passage of the State Water Plan.
This session we're looking to capitalize and ensure progress on these policies and more in order to combat climate change, prevent waste and pollution, preserve our natural resources, and protect our public health.
POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS
Position Connecticut as a leader in the fight against climate change by transitioning to 100% clean energy and codifying Governor Lamont's third Executive Order to transition to a zero-carbon electric sector by 2040.
Ban or restrict class B firefighting foam and food packaging containing toxic PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances.
Reform the existing environmental justice law to give all communities a voice in deciding where polluting facilities are sited.
Pass the Long Island Sound Blue Plan in its current form.
Provide more options for towns and municipalities to purchase dedicated open space, forests, farmland, parks, historic sites, and more.
Ban hazardous chlorpyrifos pesticides to protect public health.
Modernize and expand the Bottle Deposit program to include more containers and raise recycling incentives.
Require the teaching of climate change in all public schools.
Pass legislation to reduce plastic and polystyrene pollution across our state.
Invest in an equitable transportation vision that includes safe and reliable public transit options, electric vehicle infrastructure, bike paths, and walking trails.
