During every state legislative session, CTLCV tracks key bills that will affect our clean air, clean water, clean energy, public health, and natural resources.
This year we scored a huge victory by expanding and modernizing Connecticut's Bottle Bill for the first time in more than 30 years. We also helped pass restrictions on toxic PFAS chemicals from consumer packaging and firefighting foam. Adoption of the Long Island Sound Blue Plan passed with unanimous, bi-partisan support. And for the first time, we worked with many new partner organizations to pass Early Voting and No-excuse Absentee Ballot legislation because we firmly believe a strong democracy is critical to protecting our environment. Despite these successes, there were some eye-opening failures by our legislative leaders to pass significant climate legislation. Our top climate priority, the Transportation Climate Initiative(TCI), was used as a bargaining chip in budget negotiations and ultimately cut from the deal. But because of all the public pressure and media attention around TCI, legislators recognize the issue is not going away. That means we must double down on our outreach to lawmakers this summer!
