Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) congratulates Rep. Gail Lavielle (R-143; Norwalk, Westport, Wilton) on her victory in the 143rd State House District. CTLCV endorsed Lavielle based on her long record of promoting electric vehicles, clean car standards, and other environmental priorities. She has been one of the strongest allies for the environment throughout her time in the General Assembly, and is one of CTLCV’s consistent champions. “Connecticut voters spoke loud and clear about their commitment to protecting the air we breathe when they reelected Rep. Lavielle,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “Rep. Lavielle has been a tireless champion for electric vehicles, which give consumers more choices while lowering our emissions and helping us fight climate change. Given the Trump Administration’s gutting of clean car standards, we need Rep. Lavielle’s leadership on this front now more than ever. Clearly her constituents agreed. CTLCV looks forward to working with Rep. Lavielle in the upcoming session to promote electric vehicles and protect our environment.” Lavielle was one of 36 candidates CTLCV endorsed in the 2018 elections. McCarthy Vahey has been a passionate supporter for sensible carbon pricing. Her victory today shows voters care just as much about protecting the air we breathe. They’ve watched Washington rollback clean car standards and other safeguards, and so they came out in droves to support McCarthy Vahey and other champions for our clean air.” McCarthy Vahey was one of 36 candidates CTLCV endorsed in the 2018 elections. CTLCV endorsed Abrams for her strong commitment to protecting our public health, especially in comparison to her opponent, incumbent Len Suzio. “Connecticut voters made it clear they will not tolerate lawmakers who put polluters over people,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “CTLCV worked hard to support Mary Abrams over Len Suzio through canvasses, direct mail, and digital advertisements.” CTLCV’s Political Action Committee invested more than $20,000 in the race for the 13th Senate District. Their digital advertisements reached over 670,000 computers, phones, and mobile devices in the 13th District, and CTLCV’s direct mail pieces were sent to nearly 13,000 households. Additionally, CTLCV and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) named Len Suzio to its Dirty Dozen in the States list, which record the worst anti-environment state lawmakers in the country. “We made sure all voters in the 13th District knew that Suzio blocked critical bans to toxic tire mulch in public playgrounds and carcinogenic chemicals in children’s clothing. At every door we knocked and in every conversation we had, people told us how Suzio’s toxic voting record was driving them to the polls,” said Brown. “Mary Abrams, on the other hand, has a record of standing up for our children and our public health through her work as an educator.
