Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Representative Maria Horn (D) to represent the 64th House District of the CT General Assembly including the towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Kent, Norfolk, North Canaan, Sharon, Salisbury, Goshen, and Torrington. Voters have long relied on CTLCV's endorsements to identify candidates who will champion environmental protection. Rep. Horn has earned the League’s support in all four elections for her seat. Rep. Horn is dedicated to tackling climate issues through practical solutions that protect the environment and promote sustainability. Her efforts include establishing tree-cutting protocols, encouraging food waste diversion, and regulating polluting facilities in vulnerable communities. She has also been a strong supporter of House Bill 5004, the comprehensive climate action legislation of the recent session that she helped to pass in the legislature’s House chamber. Rep. Horn serves as House Chair of the Finance Committee, and is a member of the Environment and Energy & Technology Committees. Her leadership in these positions drives forward sustainable legislation and strengthens environmental policies. In recent years, Maria Horn worked to protect residents from harmful toxins by restricting the use of cancer-causing chemicals such as PFAS that contaminate our drinking water. She helped to ban the widespread use of the chemical Chlorpyrifos on golf courses that are killing pollinator species, such as bees and butterflies, and she is determined to better regulate these chemicals in Connecticut to provide a safe, healthy environment that people deserve. Furthermore, she has worked tirelessly to update our state’s “Bottle Bill” to reduce waste and increase recycling in Connecticut and will continue to prioritize waste management and food waste diversion as an important part of the solution. Looking ahead, Rep. Horn has vowed to do whatever it takes to reintroduce and pass meaningful climate legislation in the upcoming legislative session to strengthen Connecticut’s climate action policies. “Representative Horn has shown a deep commitment to environmental protection and sustainability,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “Her leadership on key environmental issues is vital for safeguarding our natural resources and ensuring a healthier future for all Connecticut residents.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, all candidates must have completed a Survey on the Environment. Endorsements are issued based on a candidate’s responses, their voting record in our Scorecard, and their demonstrated leadership on specific issues. ### The CT League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) is a nonpartisan statewide organization dedicated to protecting Connecticut’s environment. CTLCV works to pass equitable and sustainable legislation that impacts our air, land, water, wildlife, and climate and holds all state legislators accountable with an annual Environmental Scorecard.
