Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Nick Simmons to represent the 36th Senate District of the CT General Assembly including the towns of Greenwich, New Canaan, and Stamford. Voters have long relied on CTLCV's endorsements to identify candidates who will champion environmental protection. Simmons has a proven track record in advancing clean energy and addressing climate challenges. He previously held the Deputy Chief-of-Staff position in Governor Ned Lamont’s office, where he led initiatives such as the development of the New London pier as a national offshore wind hub. This project, which will power over 1 million homes and create more than 400 construction jobs, underscores his dedication to both environmental sustainability and economic growth. “Our endorsement of Nick Simmons is based on his outstanding record on clean energy and his proactive approach to climate resilience,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “He has demonstrated the leadership and dedication needed to advance environmental priorities and drive progress at the Connecticut General Assembly.” Simmons has emphasized the urgent need to protect vulnerable areas from coastal flooding that threatens many at-risk homes and businesses in his district. He wants to increase state and federal funding to help towns safeguard their coastline infrastructure from severe weather and flooding. Additionally, Simmons envisions Connecticut as a leader in clean energy innovation. His focus on reducing energy costs while creating thousands of new jobs reflects a forward-thinking approach that will position Connecticut for a sustainable and greener future. In response to CTLCV’s Environmental Survey, Simmons writes “I will ensure that our legislature makes smart investments and targeted subsidies so that we can reduce energy costs for families while simultaneously seizing economic opportunities. This will create thousands of new jobs while actively combating climate change.” The League is confident that the expertise and focus Simmons places on smart energy technologies will make him an effective advocate for tackling climate change and investing in sustainable solutions. Simmons’ record is in sharp contrast to the current incumbent representing the 36th Senate District, who has routinely opposed all common-sense solutions to our climate crisis. To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, all candidates must first have completed a Survey on the Environment. Endorsements are issued based on candidates’ responses and demonstrated leadership on specific issues. Comments are closed.
