9/5/2024

Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Senator Saud Anwar (D) to represent the 3rd House District of the CT General Assembly including the towns of East Hartford, Ellington, East Windsor, South Windsor. Voters have long relied on CTLCV's endorsements to identify candidates who will champion environmental protection. Senator Anwar is a committed environmental champion, having earned three previous perfect scores of 100% on the CTLCV’s Environmental Scorecard.

As a medical doctor and Chair of the Public Health Committee, Sen. Anwar understands  how climate directly impacts the health of Connecticut citizens. He is an active leader for environmental legislation that improves health outcomes for all communities, including those especially vulnerable to air pollution. Not only did he co-sponsor House Bill 5004, the major climate legislation of the past session, he championed legislation to ban the toxic chemical PFAS in many consumer products, which have devastating effects on health and the environment.

Sen. Anwar has consistently been one of the strongest voices for the environment in the state legislature. He currently serves as the Deputy President Pro Tempore, Chair of Public Health, Vice Chair of Insurance and Real Estate, and is a member of the Appropriations, Children, and Environment committees. His work in these positions has furthered environmental causes.

Looking ahead, Sen. Anwar will continue to emphasize the need to address climate change for the sake of public health. He will advocate for reducing hazardous polluting emissions, increasing access to clean electric vehicles, and finding sustainable solutions to Connecicut’s waste crisis. This work will be essential for Connecticut’s transition to a cleaner, sustainable, carbon-neutral future.

“Connecticut needs strong legislative leaders like Senator Saud Anwar who are dedicated to securing a healthier future and combating climate change,” said Lori Brown, Executive Director of CTLCV. “Senator Anwar's unwavering focus on clean air and environmental justice underscores his commitment to fostering a healthier and more resilient environment for all.”

To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, all candidates must have completed a Survey on the Environment. Endorsements are issued based on a candidate’s responses, their voting record in our Scorecard, and their demonstrated leadership on specific issues.
