CTLCV Endorses Jorge Cabrera For Senate District 17

Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Senator Jorge Cabrera (D) to represent the 17th Senate District including the towns of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Hamden, Naugatuck, and Woodbridge.

In his first term, Senator Cabrera has consistently voted in support of priority environmental initiatives, and has earned high scores on CTLCV’s annual Environmental Scorecard.

Jorge Cabrera came to the legislature in 2020 with a long history of community action, and a commitment to protect clean air and water for his district and future generations.

Senator Cabrera enthusiastically put his efforts behind some of the most significant environmental wins our state has achieved in more than a decade.  He was an effective voice for climate action in the Senate, calling for passage of groundbreaking legislation to reduce pollution from transportation and set emission standards for heavy duty vehicles, trucks and buses as part of the CT Clean Air Act.

“This was a landmark year for climate action,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “These wins would not have been possible without lawmakers like Jorge Cabrera, who worked hard to pass legislation to reduce pollution that is damaging our health and our environment.”

Last year, Senator Cabrera worked tirelessly with fellow environmental champions to update the state’s current recycling law known as the Bottle Bill.

Looking ahead, he plans to revisit priority bills that did not pass this year, such as reducing styrofoam waste. He also wants to strengthen our state’s Environmental Justice laws to prevent the construction of new polluting facilities in the most vulnerable communities that are already overburdened by air pollution.

“Senator Cabrera is a leader with the right values and is an effective voice at the legislature. We need Senator Cabrera at the Capitol to continue his good work,” said Brown.

To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, all candidates must have completed a Survey on the Environment. Endorsements are issued based on candidates’ responses, voting records in our Scorecard, and demonstrated leadership on specific issues.
