Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Representative Lucy Dathan (D) to represent the 142nd House District of the CT General Assembly including the towns of Norwalk and New Canaan. For the past two years, Representative Lucy Dathan has earned a perfect 100% rating on CTLCV’s Environmental Scorecard. Representative Dathan was a leading voice for environmental bills this year. She helped make this one of the most successful sessions in recent memory for strong action on climate backed by game-changing investments in clean transportation to reduce polluting emissions. These wins would not be possible without lawmakers like Lucy Dathan who worked hard to pass the CT Clean Air Act. As Vice-Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Representative Dathan is directly involved in funding environmental initiatives included in the budget of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Looking ahead to the 2023 session, Representative Dathan will focus on developing new waste management systems and supporting critical investments that address compostable food waste. She will continue to champion legislation to reduce the amounts of plastic and styrofoam headed to landfills or polluting the environment where they endanger wildlife. “Lucy Dathan is an effective leader and a passionate voice for the environment. She has worked hard to pass laws that prioritize conservation and clean energy that benefit her district and the entire state of Connecticut.” Representative Dathan has also been a champion of pesticides and toxic chemicals. Last year, she fought successfully to restrict PFAS chemicals that pollute our drinking water. This year, she voted to ban Chlorpyrifos, a major win this session. In 2023, she is determined to reduce the use of chemicals such as neonicotinoids that are devastating pollinators, and rodenticides that are poisoning raptors and endangering wildlife. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Representative Dorinda Borer (D) to represent the 115th House District of the CT General Assembly, including the town of West Haven. For the past two years, Dorinda Borer has earned a perfect 100% rating on CTLCV’s Environmental Scorecard. Representative Borer is currently the Chair of the state legislature’s Bonding Committee. As a former co-chair of the Environment committee, she understands the need for funding to support our environmental programs. In her current leadership position, she has led the financing of clean water, open space, green pathways, and brownfield remediation. Representative Borer organized one of the first forums on Waste Management during the 2021 Legislative Session, which was a springboard for updating our state’s landmark recycling law, the “Bottle Bill.” During the 2022 session, she introduced legislation to tackle food insecurity. This directly ties to the reduction of food waste, which compromises 24% of our waste stream. Looking ahead to 2023, Representative Borer will continue to push for solutions to our growing waste management crisis, such as legislation to reduce polystyrene and plastic from our waste stream. Dorinda Borer is also a passionate advocate for animal welfare. She is a member of the legislature’s Animal Advocacy Caucus, which works with many nonprofit animal protection groups to craft legislation to help both domestic animals and wildlife. She plans to continue the fight for humane policies that educate the public about wildlife, and for laws that will reduce animal abuse and suffering. “Dorinda Borer is an extremely effective voice for her district and has a powerful leadership role in support of funding for environmental programs in our state,” said CTLCV Executive Director Lori Brown. “We need her at the Capitol to continue her good work.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, all candidates must have completed a Survey on the Environment. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Representative Kenneth Gucker (D) to represent the 138th House District of the CT General Assembly including the towns of Danbury, Ridgefield, and New Fairfield. Representative Kenneth Gucker has earned a perfect 100% rating on our Environmental Scorecard for the past two years. There were huge wins this year on climate. As a member of the legislature’s Environment Committee, Representative Gucker worked tirelessly to pass the CT Clean Air Act that will significantly reduce diesel pollution from trucks and buses, and invests heavily in clean transportation. His efforts helped to move two more critical clean energy bills: the Climate Mitigation Act will ensure that 100% of our electricity comes from clean sources by 2040, and a bill that removes barriers to rooftop commercial solar production and expands shared community solar projects. All of these wins are crucial steps toward achieving Connecticut’s clean energy goals under the Global Warming Solutions Act. Representative Gucker has been at the forefront of environmental progress for his District and our state. Last year, he worked on legislation to address Connecticut’s growing trash crisis, including modernizing our landmark recycling law, known as the “Bottle Bill”. Looking ahead, he plans to focus on our recycling systems, composting, and reducing waste currently being burned, buried, or shipped out of state. This includes legislation to reduce plastics and Styrofoam from our waste stream. “Kenneth Gucker is dedicated and well-informed about our state’s environmental problems and is tackling them head-on. We need him at the State Capitol, where he can continue to be a strong leader for his district and the state,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. From healthy rivers, wetlands, and water conservation to the State Water Plan—Mary has consistently fought for decades to protect this precious resource. She guided the passage of our state’s Aquifer Protection Act and our Endangered Species Act. As former Chair of the Environment Committee, she wrote the state's original solid waste management legislation that included mandatory recycling, regional waste sheds, waste to energy facilities and state procurement of recycled content products. She played a central role in crafting our original recycling law, the “Bottle Bill,” and is currently working hard to solve our growing waste management crisis. “Mary Mushinsky’s legacy of commitment to our environment is legendary. She is an effective leader and many of our protection laws would not be in place today without her. She is dedicated to addressing climate issues through open space preservation and advancing clean, renewable energy programs. “Representative Maria Horn listens to the people she represents and has been working effectively to protect the natural resources in her district and throughout the state,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. Residents of Connecticut’s northwest corner have seen increasing threats to rivers and lakes throughout the District, from drought to polluted runoff. In 2021, Maria Horn worked to protect residents from harmful toxins by restricting the use of cancer-causing chemicals such as PFAS that contaminate our drinking water. This year, she helped to ban the widespread use of the chemical Chlorpyrifos on golf courses that are killing our pollinator species, such as bees and butterflies. She is determined to better regulate these chemicals in Connecticut to provide a safe, healthy environment that people deserve.
