CTLCV Endorses Maria Horn for House District 64

Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Representative Maria Horn (D) to represent the 64th House District, including the towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Goshen, Kent, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Torrington.

Maria Horn has earned a perfect 100% rating on our Environmental Scorecard for the past two years.

This was a phenomenal year for climate action. These wins would not be possible without lawmakers like Maria Horn, who worked hard to pass legislation crucial to reducing pollution and who are committed to the environment.

Representative Horn serves on both the Environment and the Energy & Technology Committee,  and currently Co-Chairs the Public Safety & Security Committee. She is dedicated to addressing climate issues through open space preservation and advancing clean, renewable energy programs.

“Representative Maria Horn listens to the people she represents and has been working effectively to protect the natural resources in her district and throughout the state,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director.

Residents of Connecticut’s northwest corner have seen increasing threats to rivers and lakes throughout the District, from drought to polluted runoff.  In 2021, Maria Horn worked to protect residents from harmful toxins by restricting the use of cancer-causing chemicals such as PFAS that contaminate our drinking water.

This year, she helped to ban the widespread use of the chemical Chlorpyrifos on golf courses that are killing our pollinator species, such as bees and butterflies. She is determined to better regulate these chemicals in Connecticut to provide a safe, healthy environment that people deserve.

Maria Horn worked tirelessly to update our state’s “Bottle Bill” to reduce waste and increase recycling in Connecticut. Looking ahead to the 2023 legislative session, Maria Horn plans to prioritize waste management and make composting more accessible in small communities.

To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, all candidates must have completed a Survey on the Environment. Endorsements are issued based on candidates’ responses, recorded in our Scorecard, and demonstrated leadership on specific issues.
