Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Democrat Alex Larsson for the Connecticut General Assembly. Larsson is challenging Republican incumbent David Wilson to represent the 66th House District. Larsson has been a strong supporter for the ban on harmful single-use plastic bags in his community in Litchfield, and is passionate about protecting open space. He knows that investing in clean energy will bring jobs to his district and Connecticut, and his passion for the environment stands in stark contrast to his opponent, Wilson, who scored an abysmal 48% in CTLCV’s 2018 Environmental Scorecard.
“Alex has been an active champion for the environment in his community,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “He knows the threat plastics pose to our waterways and the delicate ecosystems they support, and he strongly supports bans on single-use plastic bags. Connecticut’s trails and open spaces are some of our most valuable treasures, and Alex is passionate about giving towns and municipalities more ways to invest in their parks, greenways, and historic properties. He is a bright, forward-thinking candidate, and we need more leaders like Alex at the Capitol.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. All candidates running for legislative office were invited to complete the questionnaire, and CTLCV received over 100 responses. Endorsements are issued based on a candidate’s responses as well as additional information provided to CTLCV’s Endorsement Committee. This endorsement is part of the third round of CTLCV's ongoing endorsement process. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Democrat Maria Horn for the Connecticut General Assembly. Horn is challenging Republican incumbent Brian Ohler to represent the 64th House District, and is deeply concerned about the threat of toxics and harmful invasive species to lakes and rivers in the district. She served on the Real Estate Advisory Board for the Nature Conservancy, and is a stanch supporter of water as a public trust.
“Maria knows that toxic tire mulch, flame retardants, and other pollutants are a serious threat to our public health,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “Unfortunately, we’ve seen commonsense bans on some of the worst of these toxics blocked without ever coming for a vote. That’s why we need leaders like Maria who are committed to standing up to polluters and special interests.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Rep. Gregg Haddad (D-54) for the Connecticut General Assembly. Haddad has been a strong champion for the environment throughout his four terms in the House. In his response to CTLCV’s Survey on the Environment, he indicated his support for 100% clean energy, ending our reliance on single-use plastic bags, and adopting the State Water Plan. He has also been a staunch opponent of proposed fracked natural gas pipelines.
“Rep. Haddad knows that clean water is a right, not a privilege,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “He is a firm advocate for water as a public trust, and is committed to making sure our State Water Plan is finally adopted. He knows that clean energy supports thousands of jobs in Connecticut, and that investing in renewables will grow this workforce even more. We look forward to continuing to work with Rep. Haddad for a healthy environment and brighter future for Connecticut.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz (D-30) for the Connecticut General Assembly. Throughout his time in leadership, Aresimowicz appointed environmental champions to key roles and prioritizes the environment in the bills brought for a vote.
“Connecticut can count on Speaker Aresimowicz to make sure clean energy, land conservation, and the environment always get a fair shake,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “When setting the legislative calendar, Speaker Aresimowicz prioritized the environment, and as a result the Connecticut General Assembly doubled its investments in clean energy and committed to cutting our carbon emissions in half. These are bold initiatives, and they would not be possible without leaders like the Speaker who know that a healthy environment also means a healthy economy.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. Szepswood is running for the open seat in the 29th House District. As a real estate agent, she knows how important protecting our farmland and open space is to improving home values and quality of life. She is a strong opponent to proposed pipelines for fracked natural gas, and an advocate for water as a public trust.
“Kerry knows that when our towns invest in their parks, trails, greenways, and historic properties, it’s easy to attract and keep residents to our communities,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “She grew up on a farm, and she knows how important it is to preserve our rural, open spaces. Kerry also understands how investing in clean energy will bring down energy costs for farms, homeowners, and small businesses while also creating good jobs. We need more leaders like Kerry who understand a healthy environment is key to a healthy economy. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Rep. Devin Carney (R-23) the Connecticut General Assembly. As the Republican co-chair of the bipartisan Clean Energy Caucus, Carney is a staunch supporter of investing in renewable energy to create good jobs in Connecticut. He is respected on both sides of the aisle for his commitment to clean air and water, and supports the State Water Plan and water as a public trust.
“Rep. Carney has been a champion for clean energy and the thousands of jobs it supports,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Clean Energy Caucus, Rep. Carney was an early signer of our Clean Energy for All pledge to move Connecticut to 100% renewable energy by 2050 or sooner. We need more leaders like Rep. Carney who acknowledge the threat climate change poses and the importance of taking action to reverse the damage done so far.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Democrat Eleni Kavros DeGraw for the Connecticut General Assembly. DeGraw is running for the open seat in the 17th House District. She is a strong supporter of clean energy, land conservation, wildlife protections, and water as a public trust. She knows investing in renewable energy will both help us fight climate change and create good jobs in a growing field.
“Eleni knows that moving Connecticut to 100% clean energy will both help us fight climate change and create good, high-paying jobs,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “Clean energy already supports roughly 38,000 jobs in Connecticut, and the field is on the rise. Given Washington’s emphasis on coal and fossil fuels, we need leaders like Eleni here in Connecticut who are ready to fight for clean energy and the workers it supports.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. All candidates running for legislative office were invited to complete the questionnaire, and CTLCV received over 100 responses. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Sen. Toni Boucher (R-26) for the Connecticut General Assembly. Boucher has been a champion for open space and land conservation, and spearheaded the preservation of the Troutbrook Reservoir and other natural resources. “Sen. Boucher knows the importance of preserving open space, and has always been a passionate champion for the environment,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “As a leader on the Transportation Committee, Sen. Boucher fought to preserve Troutbrook Reservoir and other key open spaces. She knows land conservation is critical to fighting climate change, and that the parks, greenways, trails, and historic properties they support help attract and retain new residents. In this time of intense partisanship, we need more leaders like Sen. Boucher who know the importance of working across the aisle to protect our environment.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) endorsed Democrat Julie Kushner for the 24th Senate District. Kushner is challenging Republican incumbent Michael McLachlan, who scored a failing 62% according to CTLCV’s 2018 Environmental Scorecard. In sharp contrast to McLachlan, Kushner has been a champion for sustainability initiatives with the Blue-Green Alliance. She has represented organized labor at climate change rallies and marches, expressing her sincere conviction that unions and regulations should not be at odds with the environment.
“As a powerful voice for our working families and organized labor, Julie knows firsthand the jobs we can create by investing in renewable energy,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “Clean energy already supports over 38,000 jobs in Connecticut, and Julie knows we can add even more jobs in the growing fields of solar, offshore wind, and other renewables. She has already proven herself as a leader and forceful advocate for sustainability, and we at CTLCV look forward to working with her in the State Senate.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer. She is committed to incentivizing investment in clean energy, especially solar, to grow jobs in her district and across Connecticut.
“Annie knows the threat plastics pose to our waterways and the delicate ecosystems they support,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. “More importantly, she proved in the State House that she knows how to work with members of both parties to pass critical protections for animals and the environment. She has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to conservation, and we at CTLCV look forward to continuing our work with her in the State Senate.” To receive CTLCV’s endorsement, candidates must have completed the Survey on the Environment earlier this summer.
